Artist Rudy Vargas is a loyal native of California’s San Joaquin Valley. Originally from Hanford, he now resides in Visalia.
With over fifty years of acrylic painting experience, Rudy has created a unique, soulful style he identifies as a “passionate pursuit in a realistic genre”. His style is rich with color and rich with the composition influence of the old European Masters.
Privately, Rudy has been a long-time student of Stoicism and his work, in its entirety, is grounded in “Memento Mori” which translates “remember you must die”. With that in mind, Rudy paints every painting as though it could be his last.
In addition, Rudy is a former Marine Sgt and retired SWAT Police Officer. And notably, a police psychologist once labeled Rudy a “Paradox” because of a perplexing personality profile.
Understanding the difficulties of service life, Rudy has dedicated a large portion of his work to those who serve. His service works are displayed in countless locations across the country and abroad.
The California State Assembly and the United States House of Representatives have also recognized the talent and dedication of his work to those who serve.

Fresno Yosemite International Airport. August 14, 2026, to November 2026. A large collection of Rudy’s work will be on display inside the main airport terminal.
Kings County Art League Annual Artisan Market. The event is Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, and will be held at the Fast Plaza, 312 W. 7th St., Hanford Ca. from 8 am to 1 pm. The Market is free and open to the public and there is free parking in the rear off Redington St. Food and drink will also be available. Rudy will be there with his art and performing a live painting demo. In addition, there will be many other talented Artists selling their art as well.
Taste the Arts in downtown Visalia, presented by the Arts Consortium. The festival is free and open to the public, Saturday October 17, 2026, 10 am to 5 pm on Garden north of Main St. Rudy will be on scene with new works to see and painting live as well.
The Cornerstone Cafe, 312 W. 7th St. #103, Hanford, CA. Rudy will have a selection of original art on display from January 2027 through March 2027. The Cafe is an inviting place to visit and eat. Rudy was born and raised in Hanford and often says he got his “painting chops” there.
South Valley Art Tour, presented by The Arts Consortium of Tulare County. The dates are in the works for March 2027. Rudy will be looking forward to participating in this 2027 event.
Valley PBS, 1544 Van Ness Ave, Fresno, CA. as part of the First Thursday Art Hop June 3, 2027, 5 to 8 pm. Rudy will be there to talk art and inspirations. A large selection of Rudy’s work will be on display through the entire month of June 2027.

Update: “Santa Fe Liquor” was awarded the “Award of Excellence” in acrylic painting at CAL Expo in Sacramento. The “Award of Excellence” is a prestigious juried honor at the California State Fair Fine Arts Competition. Jurors selected this standout piece from a group of exceptional entries, and the award is based on artistic merit.
